LED-tubes in underground car garages
Description of Measure and Categorization
Since 2014, Dornbirn has been successively replacing fluorescent tubes with LED tubes. The replacement even takes place where lamps are in good conditions. So far, 3,800 tubes have been replaced. The implementation of LED tubes led to enormous energy savings: 150,000 kWh per year are saved in the main parking lot of Dornbirn - the city garage. The transformation was operated by a regional electrical fitting constractor.
In the city garage only, more than 600 tubes, with an annual working time of approx. 7,000 hours, were exchanged. Through this, 150,000 kWh electricity will be saved annually, which corresponds to approx. 55% of the earlier consumption. The costs for the exchange amounted to just under € 30,000 and were borne by the municipality. With a payback period of 1.9 years, Dornbirn refrained from a contracting solution.
