Electricity saving check
Description of Measure and Categorization
“Stromsparcheck” (Electricity saving check), a federal project from Caritas (which offers recipients of social benefits and those on low incomes the opportunity to swap inefficient energy consumers free of charge and reduce energy costs by an average of € 152 per year with the help of trained energy-saving helpers who conduct home visits) is funded by the BMU (Federal Ministry for the Environment) and implemented in Lörrach in a very special way. With local support, it is intended to offer these energy-saving helpers a job with the local energy supplier. This 2-year fixed-term position encourages the energy-saving helpers to adopt an incredibly good work ethic. This has ensured that, in just 3.5 years, not only have half of all low-income households in Lörrach been visited and encouraged to participate in the project, but also half of the energy-saving helpers were able to return to full employment. The project, which started in 2013, will continue at least until 2022.
